Marketing Manager Alex Beck leaves WeTrack after four years

WeTrack's Marketing and Communications Manager Alex Beck is leaving the company this week to pursue a new opportunity. Having joined WeTrack straight from university and spent four years here, we took the opportunity to catch up with Alex on his time with us!

How did the opportunity to join WeTrack first come about?

With WeTrack Directors Peter Ward and Charlie Vaughan-Fowler both being alumni of the University of Bristol here in the UK, they used the Bristol careers' website to advertise an internship for a Marketing and Content Generator. I sent in a cover letter, spoke to Peter a couple of times over the phone and met Peter and Charlie in a London pub! A few weeks later, I started my six-week internship.

And how did it all develop from there?

I really enjoyed my internship, but wanted to return to Bristol to complete a research Masters degree. I won't bore you with the details of that project now, but fortunately Peter suggested that I continued to work part-time for WeTrack during that year, helping with social media, blog content and customer support.

I returned as a full-time employee in September 2019, was promoted to Marketing and Communications Manager in 2020 and have had increasing responsibility throughout my time at WeTrack.

Until now, I have led on marketing strategy and delivery: identifying target groups and prospects, planning and running campaigns, creating multi-form content, managing website, blog and social media output, and leading bid and tender responses.

What has been the highlight of your time at WeTrack?

I'm going to cheat and pick 3 highlights!

Number one, winning contracts with and working with some fantastic clients, the biggest names in sport and events. It is a great feeling to watch the Olympics and other amazing entertainment and know that we had a part to play in making it happen.

Number two, the responsibility I have been given to own the marketing department. Peter and Charlie have shown a lot of trust in me to run with my own ideas and learn on the job, and I have indeed learnt so much. Coming in with zero marketing experience, they've given me the freedom to make decisions and make mistakes!

Number three, working with my great colleagues. They have given me the best possible introduction to my career, with how friendly and supportive they are. It is a really healthy working environment where we all work hard but we all get on very well, care about each other and care about the success of the company and our clients.

Do you have any advice for someone thinking about applying to WeTrack?

Demonstrate your passion for the sport / events industry and / or your passion for working with B2B SaaS products. The whole team is driven by creating great tech that helps big clients in sport, events and beyond, so you'll need to share that drive, whatever role you take on.

Beyond that, just try to let your personality come across, be friendly, professional and don't take yourself too seriously. Even though we're a remote-first company, we work closely together and really value our social time together.
